Rutherford campaigns at fundraiser in Ponte Vedra Beach

Regardless of one’s political persuasion, the midterm elections are drawing significant attention, as evidenced at a recent fundraiser for Congressman John Rutherford (R-FL) hosted by Dale and Janet Westling with Andy and Toni Crawford in Sawgrass Country Club.

Approximately 60 people attended the Sept. 24 event to hear from Rutherford, who is running for his second term as representative of Florida’s 4th Congressional District after serving as the sheriff of Duval County for 12 years.

Though admitting stark contrasts between the Democrats and Republicans, Rutherford insisted there remain opportunities to work across the aisle. Doing so is how he said he managed to pass three bills in less than two years. Most notable, he said, is the STOP School Violence Act for which he was recognized by the Security Industry Association as the 2018 Legislator of the Year.

During his first term, Rutherford has served on the Homeland Security, Veteran Affairs and Appropriations committees. He also continues to sit on the Judiciary Committee.
