Ponte Vedra High School students had the opportunity to experience and compete in the annual Florida State Chinese Competition held in Miami, March 31-April 1. Schools and students from across the state competed in individual listening, reading and speaking competitions, as well as the cultural jeopardy game and creative project competition as teams representing each school.

The students were able to take part in this program due to support from the administration and the Chinese teacher Ms. Li.

The students trained and worked hard with the guidance and aid of Ms. Li in preparation for this competition. The Ponte Vedra High School team won first place in the cultural jeopardy game and the creative project competition.

Despite the victorious and dominating energy, the PVHS students reportedly showed humility and good sportsmanship bonding with students from the other schools.

In addition to the awards, the students gained intellectual, social and leadership skills from this competition.

The bond and camaraderie the students have with one another and their teacher was apparent throughout the competition. Their energy in the competition exuded passion and devotion to the Chinese language and culture, according to a media release about the competition.

Ms. Li and the Chinese program create a serious learning environment as well as a fun and comfortable one that encourages learning and more awareness of Chinese culture. The Chinese language program at Ponte Vedra High School supplies many opportunities with the Chinese State Competition being one of them.

Participating in the state competition helps the students learn about the culture, improve their language abilities, create long-lasting bonds and grow as a person. Though the mornings were early and the events continuous, the students’ and teachers’ contribution to the PVHS team was evident in their success and optimistic atmosphere.
