PVB students round up support for book fair benefiting Florida Keys library

The Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus recently wrapped up its Scholastic book fair benefitting a library in the Florida Keys that was devastated by Hurricane Irma.

The final day of the book fair took place Nov. 17. In celebration of "Reading Round Up" week, students also came to school dressed in cowboy attire and hosted a special flag ceremony complete with ukuleles and patriotic music.

The idea to benefit the Florida Keys library originated with teacher, librarian and information specialist Christina Karvounis, who helped coordinate the book fair with the Bolles Parent Association. Bolles earns Scholastic dollars based on how many books are sold at the fair, but instead of using the dollars for the Ponte Vedra Beach Library, the school's student council voted to give the dollars to the Keys school.

“Our students immediately were excited about helping others,” Karvounis said. "What a wonderful moment to give young students an opportunity to activate their personal commitment to Bolles values through meaningful projects!”
