Sharon Prince has worked as a staff nurse at Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery for 12 years. She is currently in the process of transitioning to the role of nurse practitioner.

Can you please briefly tell us about your background?

I was born and raised in Arkansas. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Arkansas State University in 1992. I have been married for 26 years, and we have two sons, Austin, 21, and Jason, 18. In 2003, we decided to move here from Springfield, Missouri because my husband Derek purchased the Bogey Grille. Also, we have family here and wanted to be closer to them. In 2015, I decided to further my education and get a master’s degree as a nurse practitioner.

What has your journey been like with Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery?

During my 12 years of working at Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery, I have worked closely with the surgeons, which has allowed me the opportunity to learn and truly grow as a healthcare provider. It has also given me a better understanding of patient care by developing sincere patient relationships. I started working for the practice in 2006 as a staff nurse, working in the clinic and in the operating room. When I decided to go back to school, I chose an online school so I could continue to work full-time. It was challenging to work while attending graduate school, but it was well worth it in the end. I graduated May 6 with a master’s degree as a family nurse practitioner, and since passing my board certification, I am in the process of acquiring my Florida state licensure. In addition, I’m currently training to transition into a nurse practitioner role, which includes administering neuromodulators, dermal fillers and performing interventional facial rejuvenation therapies using hybrid lasers and intense pulse light modalities. I’m extremely grateful that Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery has offered me the position, and I’m very happy to stay with the same company I’ve been with since 2006. Since it’s one of the largest cosmetic practices in the Southeast, I know I will receive the best training and experience to excel in the aesthetic field. The practice ensures high quality patient care and customer service, and I’m honored to be part of the team.

What’s your proudest moment in the 12 years that you’ve worked at the practice?

I did not go to my recent college graduation because it was in St. Louis, and I wanted to use my time to study for the board certification exam. So, my coworkers, along with my husband, threw me a surprise commencement party. It was amazing; I wore my cap and gown as everyone cheered for me. Dr. Hickman gave a wonderful commencement speech, and the other doctors also had very kind, encouraging words for me. We then continued the celebration at the Bogey Grille of course!

What’s something about the plastic surgery field that people don’t know or understand?

I don’t think people realize how technical and methodical plastic and reconstructive surgery can be. Our surgeons are very skilled, and they approach every patient as a unique individual. Plastic surgeons have an artistic quality, and tissue is their canvas. Living here in Florida, skin cancer is very prevalent, and many times I have witnessed how our surgeons repair and rebuild delicate areas of the face after a cancerous lesion has been removed to help the patient return to a level of normalcy. Our nurse practitioners have years of experience and extensive training to help patients achieve their non-surgical aesthetic goals. Also, they continue to research and learn about new enhancement techniques to provide the most effective surgical and non-surgical treatments for the patients.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Now that I have free time again, I enjoy long walks with my dog, spending time with my family and friends and being involved with church activities. Eventually, I would like to volunteer as a nurse practitioner at one of the local healthcare clinics that serves those in need. Like most people, I also enjoy traveling and would like to explore more of our own country. Even though I grew up in Arkansas, I never went to the public diamond mine in the central part of the state; this is one of the things on my travel bucket list.

What do you enjoy most about living and working in this area?

I love living in a coastal environment. The First Coast exudes a sense of relaxation that is present even after a long day at work. Kicking off your shoes and putting on a pair of flip flops is very therapeutic. Working in this area, I have met many patients who have relocated here just like me, and I enjoy hearing their stories. Everyone has a story to tell, and listening to them tell it enriches my life. I learn so much from others. One way I meet people through work is when I represent Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery at local events such as the DONNA, THE PLAYERS Championship, McKenzie’s Run, etc. Ponte Vedra Plastic Surgery is not just a job for me; it is a family and a connection to our wonderful community.
