Ocean Palms Elementary students explore plant science

First-grade students in Mrs. Neeti Gregg’s classroom at Ocean Palms Elementary School recently learned all about plants by participating in several hands-on science experiments.

The experiments included planting grass seeds in different environments and observing capillary action at work in celery stalks. In the process, students came to understand the benefits of learning first-hand through observation and trial and error.

“These students are young, but still able to learn about complex science concepts through fun activities,” said Gregg.  “Science is all about learning through their own experimentation and sharing results.  The more engaged students are, the more they learn.”

Student Margaret E. added, “I like science because we can do experiments, and it is so much more fun than just reading a book!”
