Ponte Vedra High School Assistant Principal Dr. Fred Oberkehr has been named the school’s new principal, the St. Johns County School District has announced.

Oberkehr’s appointment will be effective pending approval by the St. Johns County School Board on June 13. He succeeds Principal Steve McCormick, who was recently named as the new principal of Creekside High School.

Oberkehr has served in public education for nearly 30 years. Prior to joining the St. Johns County School District in 2015 as PVHS assistant principal, he served as a superintendent of schools in New Jersey, where his career in education included teaching math at the middle and high school levels. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University, a master’s degree from New Jersey City University and a Doctor of Education from Seton Hall University.

Oberkehr’s appointment was among seven new principal appointments made across St. Johns County by Superintendent Tim Forson.

“I am extremely proud of this group of leaders and their ability to take on new challenges,” Forson said. “Their dedication to children is unparalleled and I look forward to working with them as principals of their respective schools.”
