Family seining program at GTM Research Reserve

There will be a guided family seining activity from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the GTM Research Reserve Guana Dam, 505 Guana River Road, Ponte Vedra Beach. Learn about the animals and their roles in Guana Lake by pulling a seine net and collecting species of fish, crabs and other marine life.

The event is free, but parking is $3 per vehicle. Waders and boots will be provided. Hat, insect repellent, water and sunscreen are recommended.

Cutest Pet Contest under way

The Jacksonville Humane Society’s (JHS) Cutest Pet Contest is back. The virtual contest raises money to support JHS pets while naming one dog or cat the Cutest Pet in Jacksonville. Submissions and voting opened Aug. 1. The final day to submit your dog or cat is Aug. 27, with the final day to vote for the pet you think is the cutest being Aug. 31.

The winner will be featured on digital billboards across Jacksonville, have a professional photoshoot and win a prize pack from JHS and Subaru of Jacksonville. Runners-up will be featured on the JHS website and win JHS and Subaru prize packs. A donation of $10 is required to enter and every $1 counts as one vote, with a minimum of 5 votes.

Resume writing workshop planned

The Savvy Job Hunters Ministry of Christ Episcopal Church will host a free Zoom workshop, "Resume Writing," from 10:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 18. Palm Valley Market every Tuesday

The Palm Valley Market is held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday inside the Palm Valley Community Center, 148 Canal Road. The market offers fresh produce, baked goods, local honey, tea, seasonal treats, soap, jewelry, plants and more.

Woman’s Club announces September meeting

The Ponte Vedra Woman’s Club will hold a general meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Marsh Landing Country Club, 25655 Marsh Landing Parkway, Ponte Vedra Beach. The cost for the dinner buffet is $30. Registration is open at pontevedrawomansclub.com/eventregistrations.php.

Repticon Jacksonville is Aug. 12-13

Repticon is coming to Jacksonville with a mixture of vendors and breeders. Guests can shop for a new family pet among the hundreds of reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, arachnids and small exotic animals. This event will be held at the Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair & Expo Center, 510 Fairgrounds Place. 

Show hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13.
