Neptune Beach kids attend story time party

Winn-Dixie partnered with Jacksonville Public Library on Oct. 28 to host the first of six story time events for invited Beaches-area preschool children at the Neptune Beach Winn-Dixie.

The event featured a special read-aloud of “Rainbow Soup” and “Sherry & Terry Go to the Library,” two of the eight all-new books included in this year's JaxKids Book Club backpack.

The first 50 families in attendance received a complimentary reusable tote from Winn-Dixie containing all the fresh ingredients to make "Rainbow Soup" at home. Children also received a special tour of the store, played games, did crafts and received giveaways. JaxKids Book Club backpacks were also given to any 4-year-old who did not receive one at their voluntary pre-K center in September or October.

The grocer will host its second event from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 4, at Regency Square Branch Library, with additional events held after the holiday season during the second half of the school year. The Winn-Dixie Gives Foundation and Harveys Gives Foundation are sponsors of the JaxKids Book Club Storytime events, in collaboration with the Library Foundation of Jacksonville and Jacksonville Public Library.

The Winn-Dixie Gives and Harveys Gives Foundations recently provided the Library Foundation of Jacksonville with a grant of $50,000 to refresh the JaxKids Book Club collection and commission new books from diverse authors and illustrators with a focus on reflecting the diverse Jacksonville community. The story time events are an extension of the grocer’s commitment to supporting early literacy and education in the communities it serves.

The JaxKids Book Club provides access to books to promote early literacy and a love of reading for all children throughout Duval County.
