Man dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound in local business parking lot

A man shot himself in the Palm Valley Outdoors parking lot Monday, Feb. 19, according to a police report provided by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

The report states that the subject shot himself while standing outside near his vehicle, which had a Georgia license plate. Eyewitnesses told deputies that they heard a gunshot in the parking lot before seeing the subject on the ground. He was pronounced deceased at 2:20 p.m., the SJSO police report revealed.

The Palm Valley Outdoors parking lot remained blocked off with crime scene tape after the incident as deputies investigated the matter; the restaurant was closed at the time. There was no evidence of foul play at the scene.
