In support of the David Weekley Homes CARE program’s “Show that you CARE” back-to-school supply drive benefiting Investing in Kids (INK!), the Girls Group of Twenty Mile in Nocatee came together July 29 to organize collections.

INK! provides innovative programs and classroom resources to support academic success for all St. Johns County public school students. The Girls Group of Twenty Mile was organized three years ago by property owner Madelen Salter to encourage and develop the values of caring, giving, understanding, integrity and creativity for girls ages 7 to 13 in the Twenty Mile Village community of Nocatee.

St. Johns County School Board District 4 Representative Kelly Barrera was on hand to address the group.

“I am so proud of each of you for thinking about other students who do not have the same everyday life that you do,” she said. “They will be so happy to have new pencils, crayons and notebooks to start their school year. I love the fact that you are helping others in your community. I’m so excited for the new school year and I want to encourage you all to give a smile to a student who looks like they need a friend. And when you see me in your school, come tell me hi and tell me how you day has been, because that gives me great joy.”
