Lawsuit against Clerk’s Office dismissed

An unlawful termination lawsuit filed Aug. 25 by a former employee of the St. Johns County Clerk of Circuit Court against her former employer has been dismissed.

In her order for dismissal, Circuit Judge Kathryn D. Weston wrote that the plaintiff, former Inspector General Nilsa Arissa, had not responded within the required 10 days to a Jan. 4 order to show cause.

Arissa’s employment with the Clerk’s Office had been terminated on March 2, 2023.

In response to a request for comment, Clerk Brandon J. Patty issued the following statement:

“The dismissal of the former Inspector General Nilsa Arissa’s lawsuit due to lack of service and failure to respond to a court order was not a surprise. This lawsuit was nothing more than a calculated political hit intended to damage me, my family and the clerk’s office’s reputation in the community. I stand by my decision to terminate her employment and will always do what’s right for the county, no matter the potential consequences. It’s the least we can expect from our public servants.”
