Klauk wins Charity Challenge for third time

Competing among other local celebrities with defending PLAYERS champion Si Woo Kim, former PGA Tour and Web.com Tour player Jeff Klauk won the annual Charity Challenge to kick off media day activities.

Featuring 13 participants playing on behalf of their respective charities, the challenge was held on the historic 17th hole and Island Green. Each charity’s player hit two consecutive shots, followed by Kim trying to land one on the green.

The closest of the three was recorded for each charity, and Klauk was closest to the pin in Round 1, winning $10,000 for the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida. He is the first three-time winner of THE PLAYERS Charity Challenge. Frank Lickliter was closest to the pin in Round 2, winning $5,000 for the True Blue Navy Benefactors.

Results for the shootout were as follows:

·       North Florida Junior Golf Foundation: Davis Lee, student at Ponte Vedra High School – 4 feet 6 inches

·       Walk-off Charities: Frank Frangie, 1010XL on-air personality – 5 feet 8 inches

·       True Blue Navy Benefactors: Frank Lickliter, two-time winner on the PGA TOUR – 6 feet 1 inch

·       Tom Coughlin Jay Fund: Curtis Dvorak, co-host, First Coast Living; retired Jaxson de Ville – 6 feet 10 inches

·       The First Tee of North Florida: Spencer Schindler, former First Tee participant – 7 feet 4 inches

·       Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation: Bill Hughes, SVP TPC Operations – 10 feet 2 inches

·       Nemours Children’s Health System: Chris Solomon, Co-founder No Laying Up – 10 feet 3 inches

·       UNF Men’s Golf Team: Philip Knowles, member of the UNF men’s golf team and THE PLAYERS Amateur winner – 12 feet 10 inches

·       Wolfson Children’s Hospital: Josh Scobee, former NFL kicker – 14 feet 8 inches

·       St. Vincent’s HealthCare Foundation: Clint Avret, Head Golf Professional, Timuquana Country Club – 23 feet

·       The Boselli Foundation: Mark Brunell, former NFL quarterback – 24 feet 7 inches

·       K9s for Warriors: Brett Simon, President of K9s for Warriors – Missed green
