Kate Amato Foundation launches fundraising campaign to honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

The Kate Amato Foundation — a local charity whose sole mission is funding innovative pediatric cancer research — is launching a fundraising campaign on the First Coast to honor Childhood Cancer Awareness month in September.

Several local businesses are teaming up to promote the cause and show their support for the Kate Amato Foundation. This year’s fundraising partners include Bach to Rock Music School, Jaffi’s, Kyds Boutique, Keystone Behavioral Pediatrics, Liz Stewart Floral Design, Mini Bar Donuts, Mosaic Day School, Pure Barre Ponte Vedra, Rosie True, Salty and Soulful Boutique, and TacoLu.

Each business is creating unique events and opportunities for patrons to show their support, ranging from jewelry events and pop up fitness classes to specialty donuts and margaritas.

“We’re extremely grateful to everyone for rallying behind Kate’s foundation to help us build her legacy and find safer, smarter treatments for kids with cancer,” said Dr. Lisa Amato, Kate’s Mom and executive director of the Kate Amato Foundation.

Jacksonville Beach resident Kate Amato passed away in November 2016 at the age of 11 after a long battle with cancer. Through her illness, Kate’s parents said they discovered how severely underfunded research is for pediatric cancer and witnessed first-hand the brutal effects of outdated, toxic treatments. To honor Kate’s life and continue the fight for other children, the Kate Amato Foundation is dedicated to funding innovative research to develop safer, smarter treatments for pediatric cancers.

The Kate Amato Foundation has had a successful first year, distributing $100,000 in grant funding to support three research projects.

“We could not have done it without the dedication and support of this community,” said Jeff Amato, Kate’s dad and director of the foundation.  “And this is only the beginning.”
