Hugs Across the County packs more than 700 bags of food for local kids in need

Local nonprofit Hugs Across the County wrapped up its “No Hungry Holidays” food drive last week, packing more than 700 bags of breakfast and lunch items for 630 St. Johns County kids (K-12) in need this holiday break.

The organization delivered the food to counselors at 32 St. Johns County School District (SJCSD) schools, with recipients including more than 100 children in the Ponte Vedra area (Ponte Vedra Beach, Nocatee and Nease). The food will help replace school-based meals that children depend on and don’t have access to during the holiday break.

Hugs Across the County packed the food at Ponte Vedra High School and Creekside High School, with assistance from PVHS girls soccer, PVHS cheer, PVHS astronomy club and the Creekside High School Hugs student chapter. Nease IB students also collected food throughout November, and Valley Ridge Academy students collected in December. Advanced Disposal provided bins.
