Representatives from Principal Senior Living Group and the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the groundbreaking of Benton House of St. Johns — a new senior living community in St. Augustine — on Wednesday, May 9.

To be located at 115 Benton Lane, the new facility, which plans to open in the second quarter of 2019, will offer assisted living, memory care, adulty day programs and respite care. The facility will have a total of 59 apartments, several common areas for residents to gather for activities and dining and a beauty and barber salon, among other features.

The Beacon Neighborhood will be dedicated to residents experiencing memory loss. This neighborhood is key pad-protected and will offer a dedicated coordinator for this unique lifestyle. Each area in the community will have enclosed courtyards for residents to enjoy. The community is a single-story design and will provide a variety of apartment home styles. Residents will bring their own furnishings and keepsakes so the apartment can truly be made their own.

Discreet and dignified personal assistance, if needed, is accessible and provided. The facility also provides personal emergency pendants for each resident as well as an emergency alert button located in all residents’ bathrooms. Benton House staff will also be able to assist residents with medication management and coordination of other support services, including assistance with long-term insurance and veterans support.

Those in attendance of the groundbreaking ceremony included Chamber President & CEO Isabelle Rodriguez-Renault and Michael Allard, Sandy Cooper, David Hubble, Sheila Martin, Jennifer Brewer, Julia Banks and Teresa Bowens of Principal Senior Living Group. The event included comments from both parties before the groundbreaking took place.
