Florida/Georgia preview: Locals offer their predictions

With the annual game between the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs coming up, the Recorder took to the streets to see what locals are thinking and who they believe will win the rivalry, which is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m. at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville.

Suzanne Bearry, a Florida fan and Ponte Vedra resident, predicted that the Gators will walk away with the big “W.”

“They’re having a great season and I think they’re going to push forward,” said Bearry, whose favorite part of the game is that it brings everyone together.

Donald McKay, a Jacksonville resident who is neither a Florida or Georgia fan, said he thinks the Gators will upset the Bulldogs this year.

“I think Georgia has more talent,” he noted, “but I think Florida with the new coach might be excited and I think they take it this year.”

McKay said the game itself is a tradition, and the part he enjoys the most is that it unifies the community and brings in revenue for the city.

Doug Ingram, a Ponte Vedra resident who is also not a fan of either team, said he thinks Georgia will win the big game by a score of 24-17. His favorite part of the event, he added, is the football game itself.

Anita Kelly, a Gators fan and Ponte Vedra resident, said she thinks the University of Florida will win by a touchdown.

“I like the Gators,” she said, “but the dogs bring a good fight.”

When it comes to her favorite aspect of the game, Kelly said she enjoys the kickoff because “all the craziness starts then.”

“I watched the news this morning,” she said, “I watched all the RVs rolling in. I think it’s a great thing Jacksonville puts on.”
