The Citizens Traffic Task Force Board (CTTF) is planning to collect input on the results of the Ponte Vedra Traffic Study that was released in April 2016 by circulating two surveys in the coming weeks.
The study, commissioned by St. Johns County and the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (TPO), analyzed roadway conditions East of the Intracoastal Waterway from J. Turner Butler Boulevard in the North, to Mickler Road in the South. It ultimately recommended short-term improvements (over the next five years) and long-term improvements (projected out to 2040) to intersections and roadways that could ease traffic congestion in the area. Considering next steps, the CTTF Board agreed that a community survey be implemented to collect input about the potential changes from as many residents and businesses in Ponte Vedra Beach and Palm Valley as possible.
Based on the recommendations presented at the public hearing April 25 at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, there are two areas that the CTTF Board believes should be surveyed separately. The first area focuses on the short-term improvements that can be made to intersections that should improve traffic flow and safety at those locations. The second area focuses on the long-term recommendation to widen A1A and Mickler Road/ CR210 by an additional two lanes.
The first survey will be circulated Oct. 9 through the emailing lists of the Ponte Vedra Beaches Coalition, the Ponte Vedra Community Association, the Palm Valley Community Association, the Ponte Vedra Municipal Service District, the North Ponte Vedra Beaches Coalition and the Sawgrass, Marsh Landing and Players Club homeowner’s associations. That survey is intended to collect input from residents on the proposed intersection improvements.
The second survey, to be circulated Nov. 13, will ask for input on the proposed widening of A1A and Mickler Road/CR 210.
Area residents are encouraged to complete both surveys. By doing so, they will assist the CTTF Board in prioritizing the individual projects and help determine which improvements, if any, should be made. To obtain a link to the survey, please contact your local HOA or organization.
