County seeking applications for ARC, zoning and adjustment board

Positions are currently vacant on several boards and committees throughout St. Johns County, including in the Ponte Vedra area with spots open on the Architectural Review Committee and Ponte Vedra Zoning and Adjustment Board.

These positions are volunteer, and the county is currently taking applications from residents who are looking to help their community by serving on one of the boards.

The purpose of the Architectural Review Committee is to ensure enhanced property development, while maintaining and encouraging quality character of design of the structures in the Ponte Vedra and Ponte Vedra/Palm Valley overlay districts remain in line with the goals and objectives of the St. Johns County comprehensive plan. 

Those applying for ARC are asked to be a registered architect in Florida or a retired architect formerly registered in the state and someone who resides in the Ponte Vedra zoning district or within district four, but outside the zoning district.

Regular members and alternates both serve four-year terms.

Anyone serving on the Ponte Vedra Zoning and Adjustment Board is given the duty of regulating and restricting the height and size of buildings, the intensity of land use, the area of yards, courts and other space about buildings, as well as the ability to classify, regulate and restrict the location of commerce and industries and the location of buildings designed for specified industrial, commercial, residential and other uses within the Ponte Vedra Zoning District.

Qualifications for the board include being a registered voter in St. Johns County and residing in the Ponte Vedra Zoning District. Members must file financial disclosure.

Both boards have been focal points of late because they were among the list of board and committee process of hearing the PUD application request and renovation plans for the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club’s property and buildings.
