Council on Aging to encourage support on Giving Tuesday

Posted

The St. Johns County Council on Aging (COA) is asking for support this coming Giving Tuesday on Nov. 27.

A global day of giving held each year the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is aimed at inspiring people to improve their local community and give back in impactful ways through charities and causes they support. This year, the COA is focused on improving the quality of life for older St. Johns County adults by strengthening its programs and services, including Meals on Wheels, five senior centers, Care Connection, its Integrative Memory Enhancement Program and more. The aid contributed will enable COA to build more wheelchair ramps, deliver more meals to homebound seniors and enhance its senior center programming — among other initiatives.

“It is important to not only provide basic necessities to our seniors, but opportunities for fun and engaging activities as well,” Council on Aging Executive Director Becky Yanni said. “During the holiday season, it is essential to bring holiday cheer to those who would otherwise be isolated and lonely during what should be the most 'wonderful' time of the year.”

Those who are interested in joining the Council on Aging’s Giving Tuesday initiative can visit www.coasjc.org, visit COA Council on Aging on Facebook, send a check to COA (180 Marine St., St. Augustine, 32084) or call Tom Torretta at (904) 209-3637.  For more details about the Giving Tuesday movement, visit www.givingtuesday.org.
