Community outpouring helps veterans in need with goods and food

Volunteers served a luncheon Aug. 24 at the Clara White Mission on Ashley Street in Jacksonville to honor homeless and in-need veterans.

The meal was donated by the Jacksonville Beach Angie's Sub restaurant. A huge supply of goods and non-perishable food for future meals was collected by the charity Turning Points in America.

“We don't know them all, but we owe them all,” Turning Points in America President Beth Heath said.

Most of the veterans stood and spoke at the gathering, sharing their personal story of service to America at duty stations all over the world.

K9s for Warriors, of Ponte Vedra Beach, the Republican Women’s Club of Duval Federated and the Benghazi Tribute Team provided multiple loads of goods and food for the Ashley Street Mission and “The Boulevard” women veterans facility.

Turning Points in America is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization founded in 2016 and located in Jacksonville. For more about Turning Points in America, visit www.turningpointsinamerica.org.
