Jeremiah Blocker is seeking election to the St. Johns County Commission District 4 because he believes in the future of St. Johns County.
“I will work hard to ensure our county remains the best place in Florida to live, to raise a family, to work and to play,” said Blocker. “We need to maintain our great quality of life while keeping our tax burden low through fiscal responsibility. Protecting our citizens and children is top priority. I believe we must provide the resources necessary for our first responders to do their jobs. Finally, St. Johns County has a world-class education system. I will work to ensure that we maintain that status.”
Blocker is a graduate of the University of Florida, where he obtained a degree in history. While attending college, he participated in the Army ROTC program, commissioning as a second lieutenant upon graduation.
In the military, Blocker served as an Army officer for over 13 years, both on active duty and in the reserves. A veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Blocker commanded a Military Police company who was embedded with the Iraqi Police Forces in the cities of Mosul and Tal Afar in Northern Iraq. Blocker continues his military service in the Air Force Reserves as a judge advocate general officer with the rank of major, handling a variety of civil, criminal and administrative proceedings.
Blocker attended law school in Jacksonville and graduated from Florida Coastal School of Law. After admission to the Florida Bar, Blocker continued his legal studies at the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, earning a Master of Law in real property development. In addition, Blocker has a graduate degree in business entrepreneurship from the University of Florida.
Before transitioning into private practice, Blocker served as a state prosecutor trying over 30 cases in front of juries ranging from DUIs to violent felony cases. In this position, he also served as the drug court liaison for the state of Florida, managing all drug court diversion cases and working with community leaders to assist substance abuse defendants successfully reintegrate into the community.
Currently, Blocker is a partner in a small law firm, where he concentrates his practice in the areas of real estate and land use, business law, title insurance, military law and veterans benefits. He and his wife Lauren live in Nocatee with their two children. The family worships at St. John Paul II Catholic Church.
