Auditions for Jacksonville Symphony’s ‘First Coast Nutcracker’ to be held Aug. 24-25

Auditions for the Jacksonville Symphony’s annual “First Coast Nutcracker,” presented by VyStar Credit Union, will take place Friday, Aug. 24 and Saturday, Aug. 25.

Auditions will be held at the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, located at 2445 San Diego Road, and dancers are to report to the Dance Building 30 minutes prior to the date and time of their assigned age group.

Audition times on Aug. 24 will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. for advanced dancers (male and female, ages 15 and older), and from 6 to 8 p.m. for intermediate dancers (male and female, ages 11-14). Advanced dancers must have at least five years of classical ballet training and females must have strong pointe work.

On Aug. 25, auditions will be held from 10 to 11:15 a.m. for dancers age 11 and older (females not on pointe and males), and from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for dancers age 9 to 10 (males and females).

Registration will be in the lobby of the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts Dance Building 30 minutes prior to the date and time assigned to each age group. Participants must also fill out the 2018 audition registration form, found at www.jaxsymphony.org, and bring a completed copy to the audition. There is a $20 audition fee.

Female dancers must be dressed in pink tights, black leotards and pink pointe or ballet shoes, with their hair secured in a bun. Male dancers under 12 may wear black gym shorts and a white tee shirt and black or white ballet shoes.

Performance dates are Dec. 14, 15 and 16, and will be in addition to school performances on Dec. 13 and 14. There is a costume fee of $80, plus $20 for any additional parts played.
