And they’re off…to raise money

Julep in Palm Valley hosted a Kentucky Derby party and fundraiser in partnership with V for Victory, which is a nonprofit organization that provides assistance for those battling cancer.

The event took place May 6 and resulted in a lively atmosphere as attendees dressed in their best derby wear and enjoyed some food and good conversation in the hours leading up to the Kentucky Derby.

Brandon Hannon was on hand representing V for Victory, as there were several auction items that could be bid on by guests, including a signed British Open golf hole flag signed by last year’s winner Cameron Smith.

“We’ve seen a lot of good feedback as people are really starting to learn more about V for Victory and what the charity represents, which we love to see,” Hannon said.

According to Hannon, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference in a person or a family’s life who is going through cancer.

“We’re all about helping families with cancer with any everyday activities that they have. Whether its tires changed on your car or getting their grass cut. Those are things you don’t really realize you need help with until you get affected by cancer.”
