Apparent homicide/suicide claims two

Two people are dead after an incident Friday, Dec. 30, in the 100 block of Bucktail Ave., Ponte Vedra.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office reported that it responded to a call for service in reference to suicide threats in the Nocatee area. First responders, including St. Johns County Fire Rescue, arrived at the scene at about 1 p.m. Once there, deputies entered the home and found the adult deceased, the apparent result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Responders also discovered a juvenile who had suffered a gunshot wound near the deceased adult.

The child was transported to Wolfson Children’s ER in downtown Jacksonville but was subsequently pronounced dead.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is on scene at this writing and is conducting an investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office issued a report saying this is believed to be an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public.
