The Ponte Vedra Branch Library unveiled its newly renovated foyer and main entrance in December.
The reveal follows nearly five months of construction, which began July 20. Among the notable new features of the renovations are several improvements to the library’s interior, including a revamp of the façade of Seymour’s Book Store, a redesigned circulation desk with a lit welcome sign replacing the wall formerly facing the main entrance, and the installation of tile floors.
The project was fully funded through donations and fundraising efforts by the Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Library (FOL), a community-based support group that works with the St. Johns County Public Library System administration to augment the library’s services. Through regular memberships, book sales held throughout the year and the continued support of the public, the foyer’s renovation became a reality.
Inspiration struck on a number fronts; according to Branch Manager Amy Ring, improving the ease of use of the entrance and creating better visibility for artists to exhibit their work were among the reasons behind the decision. Ring also said the new foyer is a monument to the Friends of the Library’s contributions, and the hope the community holds for the center.
“The library is now over 20 years old, and the Friends were really interested in doing something that would affect absolutely everyone,” Ring said. “They purchase materials, equipment and provide us with general improvements and furniture. Every item is acknowledged with a sticker – but we really wanted to make improvements to the foyer so that everyone who comes into this facility and community center benefits from it. They can feel welcomed and see that the community cares about this. There’s no better way to recognize that.”
