The annual FIS Tour de Cure is set to take place Saturday, Dec. 1 at World Golf Village in St. Augustine in support of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), and people of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate.

“We are so excited about this year’s FIS Tour de Cure,” said Shawn Dugan, a member of the ADA Community Leadership Board. “The reason I ride is due to a family history of Type 2 Diabetes. … We always Ride for the Cure.”

The holiday-themed event will include three bicycle races of 12, 40 and 65 miles, respectively, as well as a 5K run/walk. Participants are encouraged to wear holiday attire for the race to reflect the festive spirit of the season. Each rest stop will feature a unique holiday theme, including carolers, red and green refreshments, yuletide tattoos, Santa hats and more, and the fully supported cycling event includes a continental breakfast, sponsor giveaways, bike rentals and a family-friendly “Kid’s Zone” with activities for all ages. Each participant will receive a free lunch from Mission BBQ as well as beverages provided by Champion Brands.

Athletes, families, fitness enthusiasts and people wishing to make a difference in the lives of those with Diabetes are encouraged to attend the Dec. 1 event, either as an individual or a team member. Virtual participation is also available for those unable to attend the event in person.

Participants can register for $30 through Nov. 31, and then the fee will be raised to $35 for participants registering day-of on Dec. 1. Fundraising minimums are $200 for the ride and $100 for the Run/Walk, and all proceeds will benefit the ADA, which protects the rights of people with diabetes and funds critical research to find a cure. In addition, funds raised will support community-based education programs such as Camp JADA.

Corporate and individual sponsorships are still available, as is vendor space. The start and finish line will be located at 305 WGV Blvd., just across the lake from the Renaissance World Golf Village Resort. Check in time is 7:30 a.m. and the cycling portion kicks off at 8:30 a.m.
