Are you concerned about memory problems? National Memory Screening Day is Tuesday, Nov. 18, and the St. Johns County Council on Aging will be offering memory screening from 9 a.m. until noon. at each of it’s three senior center locations, including The Players Community Senior Center on Landrum Lane in Ponte Vedra Beach.

The screenings are free, confidential and quick — and are the first step toward proper detection and treatment.

The screenings also offer an opportunity to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease, successful aging and community resources.

Paulette Kozlowski is a registered nurse and a qualified dementia care specialist, and the manager of the Sunshine Center Therapeutic Adult Day Care Facility, a program of the St. Johns County Council on Aging.

Kozlowski is looking forward to the opportunity to reach out to more families facing the daunting challenges of caring for a loved one who requires supervised care.

"Early diagnosis leads the way to establishing early education, a good plan of care, a productive routine, and on-going treatment. With the proper planning and support systems in place, those afflicted with memory loss can still lead very active and enjoyable life styles both at home and in their own communities," said Kozlowski.

There are almost 3,000 St. Johns County residents afflicted with Alzheimer’s or other forms of illness involving memory disorders.
