Letter: Stevenson has developer-friendly voting record

Local campaigns are in full swing and the District 1 County Commissioner’s race is quite fascinating. Al Abbatiello has focused attention on Commissioner Cyndi Stevenson’s developer-friendly voting record.

Her voting history is public record and her attempts to deny it would be funny if not such an affront to the intelligence of the voters of St. Johns County. Developers financed her last campaign and she has been there for them time after time.

An issue citizens of Ponte Vedra should keep in mind on Election Day is how Ms, Stevenson ignored us when it came to overspending our money to purchase water companies.

Before she was even a candidate for office, she spoke out in support of the county purchase of St. Johns Service Utility. That was when the price was over $40 million.

Ponte Vedra customers fought against overpaying for utilities because we knew that in the end it would just mean higher utility bills. Ms. Stevenson maintained her support and voted for the purchase of St. Johns Service.

As predicted, Intercoastal was next in line. That inflated acquisition price was based on the price paid for St. Johns Service. Everyone in these service areas should think of her each time you get a water bill. We should especially remember her lack of concern for our pockets on voting day.
