For the late Jack Morgan, the man who was "better know as the father of the Ponte Vedra library," a fountain was dedicated on July 3 at the very building he helped make possible.
Morgan’s wife Posey and two sons Peter and Michael were seated in the front row at the outdoor ceremony, where Morgan was remembered as a "force of nature," according to Jan Bialka, president of the Friends of the Library-Ponte Vedra Beach.
More than 80 people attended the dedication of a seven-foot-tall terracotta wall fountain with flora and fauna mosaic details created by local artist Terry Nicholas.
Attendees also heard from St. Johns County library officials and the Morgan family.
"It’s unbelievable," said Morgan’s son Peter, who brought his family from Tuscon, Ariz., for the dedication.
"Dad would have loved it, he loved fountains. The idea was such a natural one."
In remembrance of their friend, the Friends of the Library give a Jack Morgan VolunTeen award, a $500 annual scholarship for a local, service-minded teenager.
