On Sunday, Miller and Lienau allowed just a single base hit in the championship game, earning the Sharks a 10-0 win and the title. A bases loaded double by Williams, plus Mark Harris’ two-run double and a bases loaded single by Garrard broke the game open for the Sharks.
11B All Stars
The 11B All Stars did not have to play a district game in order to advance to the state tournament. Instead, they tuned up for states in the John Edge Classic at the World of Baseball. The Sharks finished as runners-up in the tournament, picking up a mercy wins over Fort Caroline and Callahan before losing to Mandarin in the tournament title game by the score of 4-3.
Under-10 A All Stars
The U10A All Star team captured its district championship with three road wins against Jax Beach and Fort Caroline.
The team is very balanced up and down the lineup. During the tournament season, no player had more than 38 at bats and no fewer than 24 at bats. Strong table setters Marc Otero, John Stephens and Logan Morris led the Shark offense. Trevor Hancock, Zach Murphy and Hunter Hallstrom, Tanner Hay and Nick Dague contributed key base hits to start or keep rallies going throughout the season. Quentin Brehm, Justin Vega, Marcus Proctor and Rob Webster delivered timely hits to drive in runs.
The Sharks pitching staff boasts a strong rotation with Marcus Proctor, Vega, Hallstrom and Brehm. Proctor and Vega delivered strong starts with Hallstrom and Brehm the closers. Catcher Trevor Hancock and outfielders John Stephens and Dague led the Sharks defensively. The Sharks play in the San Jose tournament next week and then head for the state championship in Lake City beginning July 3.
10B All Stars
The 10B All Stars won their district championship by winning a pair of road games. On June 12, the Sharks edged Jax Beach 13-11. Max Dacquel was the starting and winning pitcher in the game. Dacquel struck out nine in three innings.
On Friday, the boys defeated Fort Caroline 12-7 to earn the championship. The Sharks exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 12-3 lead. They sent 16 batters to the plate in the inning. Big hits in the frame included a three-run double to the fence by Seth Reynolds, a triple by Scott Fitzburgh, two hits each by Matthew Solomon and Dacquel and an RBI single by Austin Rosenblum. Jax Beach rallied but the threat ended when Solomon’s centerfield throw to Halbach gunned down the tying run at the plate.
Reynolds pitched the final 2 1/3 innings in relief to close out the game and earn a save. Offensive leaders included leadoff hitter Fitzburgh scoring two runs and hitting a triple, Solomon with three hits and three runs scored, Rosenblum with two hits and two RBI and three runs scored, Reynolds with a double and three RBI.
