With the special election to fill the District 8 Senate Seat right around the corner, candidates are working hard to solidify their platforms and get the word out to voters.
The primary election is scheduled for Sept. 15 and the general election is scheduled for Oct. 6.
Dan Quiggle, president and CEO of America’s Choice Title Company located in Ponte Vedra Beach, has been gearing up for politics his whole life.
"I was president of the Republican club at UCLA," he said. Quiggle said he and his family moved to Ponte Vedra from Southern California 10 years ago. He said his wife’s family is from the area, so they were familiar with Ponte Vedra. "I’ve always been interested in fighting for lower taxes and limited government," said Quiggle. "I’m a business owner, not a career politician." Quiggle said he is running for the Senate seat left open by the death of Sen. Jim King because people are fed up with tax and spend politicans and they want a proven tax fighter and a real job creator. "I’m tired of watching Republicans act like Democrats," he said. "We need a new conservative leadership that will stand strong above wasteful spending. I will force Tallahassee to reign in wasteful spending." Quiggle said that families all over Florida are forced to make difficult decisions every day and that government should be forced to make tough decisions too. "We need accountability," he said. "I’ll go line by line through the budget and make tough decisions." Quiggle said he believes we are overtaxed as families. "We don’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem," he said. "The best government is as local as possible." Quiggle said we will never change Tallahassee if we keep sending career politicians. "If I had to say what separates me, I’d say that I’m a proven tax fighter, a job creator and a real Reagan conservative," he said. "We have a great message we just need to send the right messenger."
