Thank you for the strong editorial on the subject of MSD payments for police coverage.
As an old finance guy, I can assure you that Sherriff Shoar low-balled his costs. I would guess if you factored in all overhead costs such as communications, support staff, administrative expense, etc, those five officers cost the county over $500,000.
I would suggest to the MSD that if they feel they need special elite protection that they form their own police department like St. Augustine Beach did.
