Katron Smith and Elzora Norman are now proud homeowners after months of investing their own labor and through the help of Beaches Habitat for Humanity, Supply Source, Ashco and the Ponte Vedra Rotary Club. The homes of Smith and Norman were recently completed and the Beaches Habitat for Humanity held a dedication service June 27.

Along with the volunteering of labor, members of the Ponte Vedra Rotary, Kathy Fehling and Sharon Hawes, took on the added responsibility of decorating the home. Smith, who has four children ages 1 through 11 years old, was without furniture for her new home. Her old furnishings were infested by termites and Smith did not want to risk bringing the furniture to her new home. This left Smith and her children sleeping on air mattresses.

Hawes organized members of the Ponte Vedra Rotary Club and Ponte Vedra Presbyterian Church and collected donations of new and used furniture, along with cash donations. With these, Hawes was able to fully furnish Smith’s new home including beds for all four children. Fehling organized donations of books for the children to help foster early reading skills and to encourage a love of reading for the children.

"I want to thank each and every individual for being here and for caring about my family," said Katron Smith.
