1. Hang a flag. Show your patriotic spirit and hang the American colors around your house. Put the Star-Spangled Banner where all can see, to show that American pride.
2. Watch fireworks. What better way is there to celebrate? Head over to St. Augustine’s Fourth of July Celebration in downtown St. Augustine at 9:30, free admission, Jacksonville Beach’s Fourth of July Liberty Celebration at 9:30 for free as well or the Beach Bash at the Ritz-Carlton on Amelia Island from 6 to 9 p.m., reservations required, $75 for adults, $35 for kids.
3. Have a cookout. Grill some hot dogs or hamburgers and invite the neighbors. It’s a great way to meet with friends and celebrate American Independence Day.
4. Go to a parade. A true way to celebrate, parades are fun for the whole family. At the traditional Sawgrass Country Club Fourth of July celebration, the kids can eat popcorn and snow cones, jump in a bounce house and have their faces painted, then join their parents to watch the golf cart parade.
5. Visit the zoo. At the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, at 9 a.m., the Fourth of Zoo-ly Jamboree begins. There will be a picnic, live music, games and lots of fun. The kids can also meet Jazoo, the Zoo’s lion mascot, and there will be a family prize drawing, along with live animal encounters.
